Dr Pepper Snapple Group Builds Up Brooklyn with Playgrounds for Nuestros Niños Day Care Center

On an empty site at Nuestros Niños school in Williamsburg, New York, 200 volunteers gathered with one mission in mind: to build a playground for the pre-k and kindergarten students to enjoy for years to come.

As part of a three-year, $15 million commitment to KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to ensuring that every child in America has a great place to play nearby, the Dr Pepper Snapple Group has pledged to build or fix up to 2,000 playgrounds by the end of 2013. Nuestros Niños is one of the schools benefitting from the “Let’s Play” initiative.

KaBOOM! scouted the boroughs to find the best possible location – a neighborhood in desperate need of a playground, and with a high level of community involvement. With no sufficient playground or alternative option within walking distance, Nuestros Niños was a sensible choice. When DPSG arrived onsite ready to build, they were joined by volunteers from Nuestros Niños, GrowNYC, KaBOOM! and the surrounding community.

“They’re [the children] going to be able to go out and exercise, climb and run,” says Ms. Cruz, executive director of Nuestros Niños. “It’s wonderful.”
